A mural can completely transform a room and add an artistic and exclusive atmosphere. Many people dream of having a mural in their home, but most assume it is both expensive and difficult. But how much does a mural really cost? And can it be done in a way that is both accessible and flexible?

As a visual artist trained in both Denmark and Sweden, I have created large murals and oil paintings for many years, which I have exhibited in various artistic contexts. I have always been fascinated by how art can transform spaces, and how a painting on the wall can give a whole new atmosphere to a home.

When I moved into my own home, I started looking for beautiful wall decorations. I fell in love with designer wallpapers, but was quickly put off by their high prices and the fact that they were difficult to install. Many of the beautiful wallpapers required a professional installer, which meant that the total cost was even higher. I also experienced how much waste there was with traditional wallpaper – often up to 40% of the wallpaper goes to waste because the patterns have to match.

I wanted to make artistic murals for private individuals something that everyone can access, without hassle and without a sky-high price tag.

How much does a mural cost?

With Tonka Papers I have developed a solution that combines the artistic depth of a mural with the flexibility of self-adhesive wallpaper. My hand-painted, cut-out wallpaper works like a mural, but at a lower price and with the option to move or reuse it. You also get the option to build your mural yourself, and prices for the removable wallpaper start at 125 kr. for a small painting with a height of 30 cm. A few pieces of these put together and you already have a small and unique mural. If you want something bigger, there are both larger motifs and larger sets.
