“When I bought my first house, I wanted beautiful wallpaper for the entire house. I was eager to decorate and put my stamp on my future home. The wallpapers I fell in love with were very, very expensive. At the same time, I was busy creating art exhibitions with my murals, which had to be painted over again after the exhibition ended. One day, I was in the process of removing an incredibly stubborn wallpaper that I had put up in one of my exhibitions. It took several days to remove the wallpaper, and my hands were completely ruined by the soap mixture I was using. That's when I got the idea for movable murals. I found the best textile wallpaper and got out my finest paint tubes and got to work. After a phase of testing materials, I developed the first designs together with some customers who wanted a wall decoration adapted to their institution."
Tonka Papers is based in Copenhagen and founded in 2021 by visual artist and interior designer Helene Vestergaard.

Tonka is the delicious beans from the fruits of the South American tree Kumara. They contain a heavenly aromatic mix of vanilla, marzipan, cherries, almonds and more. A bit of luxury that makes the mind travel to the best places, just as there is the goal of the wall decorations - they must create mood, atmosphere and a very special sensory experience.
Tonka Papers produces wall decorations for private individuals, art exhibitions, companies, and institutions, created by visual artist Helene Vestergaard.
All productions are based on experimentation with different media, techniques, and expressions. The paintings are often built up in layers, and Helene's visual art is inspired by various topics such as traditional handicrafts, feminist surrealism, and eccentric interior design.

The wall decorations are a flexible alternative to ordinary wallpaper, expensive paintings, and mass-produced decorations — and can be adapted to both small and large surfaces.
